Cromwell Medical Centre would like to welcome Dr David Scharapow to the team.
Originally from Tasmania, Dr Scharapow trained at the Royal Hobart Hospital and spent the first 7 years of his career in emergency medicine which has provided him with a good foundation for rural general practice.
David has practiced medicine in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the Solomon Islands in a variety of different roles. He feels that his range of experience is well suited to providing the Cromwell community with sound, sensible, up to date health advice.
Whilst David has only recently re-joined the team, he has called Central Otago home since 2007 and has worked as a locum doctor in Cromwell on many occasions over the years. He completed his general practice training in Dunedin and received fellowship with the Royal NZ College of GP’s in 2011.
He has worked in Cromwell, Wanaka, Alexandra, Balclutha, Linton, Burnham and Rangiora. David also spent 8 winters working as the medical officer for Cardrona Alpine Resort. He enjoys all aspects of general practice and hopes that, like his family’s GP back in Tasmania, he will have the opportunity to treat multiple generations of the same family.
David is married and lives locally. He is an active, outdoors person with a commitment to work/life balance. He loves spending time in the mountains and enjoying the world-class fly fishing available in the region. Occasionally, you may see him driving his pride and joy, a mint green 1965 AP6 Valiant handed down from his dad.
